Heliotrope Architects operates from Seattle, designing houses and small buildings in the Pacific Northwest. The firm was founded in 2008 by Joseph Herrin and Chadbourne Doss, both trained at the University of Washington. Projects use timber framing, large windows, and shed roofs. Materials include cedar siding, concrete floors, and exposed Douglas fir beams. The studio designs for natural ventilation and daylighting to reduce energy use. Recent work includes houses on Bainbridge Island, renovations in Seattle's Capitol Hill, and a winery building in Walla Walla. The practice has received multiple AIA awards.
