Light and Air is a Brooklyn-based architecture studio led by Shane Neufeld, established in 2017 and based at 5 Herkimer Place, Brooklyn. Neufeld's background as a painter is the root of the practice's design approach, which treats light, materiality, spatial volume, and visual connection as the essential architectural elements. The studio believes architecture is most impactful when focused on these elemental qualities, creating dynamic spaces that resonate in unexpected ways and are sensitive to the interplay between the built environment and the natural world. Light and Air works across residential renovations and new construction projects in New York, with a body of work concentrated in Brooklyn townhouses and urban infill sites.
