Ghent, Belgium
Machteld D'Hollander makes furniture and objects by hand in Ghent, Belgium. She studied textile design at LUCA School of Arts before turning to furniture in 2016. Recent work includes benches in solid oak with carved surfaces, ceramic vessels with thick walls and rough textures, and bronze door handles cast from wax models. Production is done in her own workshop using hand tools, chisels, and files. D'Hollander works the surfaces heavily, leaving tool marks and irregular finishes. Pieces are made as one-offs or in small editions.
