Nobuo Araki

Nobuo Araki (b. 1967, Kumamoto, Japan) is a Tokyo-based architect and founder of The Archetype, established in 1997 after working for Toyokawa Architects and Associates. The studio works across houses, offices, and commercial spaces, with a particular concentration in retail environments for fashion and streetwear brands. Projects include Supreme Tokyo, Stüssy Shibuya, Kaikai Kiki Motoazabu (Takashi Murakami's studio and gallery), Auralee Tokyo, F.C.R.B. Stadium Project, Samurai Nishiazabu (Kashiwa Sato's office), NSW Store for Nike, and Yoshimoto Kogyo Tokyo headquarters. Araki has served as a visiting professor at the Nishinippon Institute of Technology. The Mass Museum is the first phase of the Harajuku Expanding Landscape Project, an ongoing 4-phase, 4-site initiative aimed at architecturally planning an expanding landscape within the gaps of the city.
