Studio Velocity

Okazaki, Japan

Studio Velocity is a Japanese architecture practice founded in 2006 by Kentaro Kurihara and Miho Iwatsuki, both born in 1977 in Aichi Prefecture, and based in Okazaki City. Both founders worked at Junya Ishigami Architects from 2004 to 2005 before establishing the practice. The studio focuses primarily on residential architecture in Japan, with a body of work characterized by inventive formal responses to site conditions, neighbor relationships, and natural light. Kentaro Kurihara has taught architecture at Aichi Sangyo University, Aichi Institute of Technology, and Nagoya City University, and became associate professor at Aichi Sangyo University's Department of Architecture in 2020. Miho Iwatsuki has taught as a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Art and Design since 2008. Completed projects include Zoning Mountain in Toyama, House in Chiharada, Swelled House in Tokyo, House Surrounding the Courtyard in Okazaki, and a Church Reconstruction in Aichi. Work has been published in Dezeen, ArchDaily, Designboom, and Divisare.
