Tobias Berg

Oslo, Norway

Tobias Berg Johannessen (b. 1991) is an Oslo-based furniture designer from Nesodden who completed a master's degree in product design at Oslo Metropolitan University in 2019. That year he received the Norwegian Industry Design Scholarship from the Federation of Norwegian Industries. In January 2020, Wallpaper* named him one of the world's most promising young design talents. His approach to design is driven by curiosity and instinct, with simple details, shapes, and materials as the foundation of each piece. Berg's practice focuses on the intersection of industrial process and domestic use, working with materials including aluminum, stainless steel, powder-coated steel, and ash wood. Key works include Kvitre (2019), a powder-coated steel lounge chair with replaceable canvas or leather upholstery; Stillas, an armchair combining stainless steel profiles with ash wood panels and visible screw joinery; Kollen, a minimalist lounge chair; and 10:05, an aluminum plate lounge chair. Work has been exhibited at Oslo Design Fair, Håndverk+, and the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.
