Ueda Design Studio (UDS) is a Seattle-based architecture and interior design practice founded in 2016 by Nahoko Ueda. Before establishing her own studio, Ueda worked for 10 years on high-end residential and institutional projects at Olson Kundig in Seattle. Her design philosophy is rooted in Japanese spatial principles she experienced growing up in a traditional Japanese house: the careful cultivation of nature, material beauty, and the play of light and shadow within a functional balance. The studio works across new construction, remodels, cabins, and interior design throughout the Pacific Northwest, with a consistent focus on sustainability, building science, and natural materials. UDS is certified as a minority- and women-owned business by Washington State OMWBE. Work has been featured in Dwell, Dezeen, Designboom, and Dwell Magazine.
