Abaque

Coffee Tables in Contrast

Anthony Guex pairs dark marble with pale ash wood in 2 coffee tables. The Abaque series explores weight and lightness through contrasting materials.

Swiss designer Anthony Guex created Abaque, a pair of outdoor coffee tables that play with weight and balance.

The tables are made from Eternit, a material often used in construction. Guex uses it in two different ways: a heavy, solid base that feels grounded, and a thinner top that appears light in comparison. The contrast between the two parts makes the tables feel stable yet airy, functional yet sculptural.

Guex brings a cabinetmaker’s precision and a designer’s eye to the project. After years of training and teaching at ÉCAL, his work shows how simple forms and thoughtful materials can create pieces that feel timeless and contemporary at once.
