mpgmb designs a wall-mounted shelf in bold colors and postmodern geometry. The piece channels Memphis Group forms from their Montreal studio.
Montreal-based studio mpgmb designed Going Back to Memphis, a shelf that nods to the radical Memphis movement while giving it a more restrained finish.
The piece is playful and asymmetrical. Blocks overlap, shapes intersect, and the geometry feels almost chaotic β but itβs held together by a clear sense of order. The composition looks fragmented at first glance, then reveals an underlying rhythm.
Unlike the bright patterns and loud colors often tied to Memphis design, this shelf tones the palette down. The result is a mix of bold form and quiet elegance. It captures the spirit of the movement without imitating it, proving that even the most radical design language can evolve into something new.
