Sunny is an armchair designed by Note (design studio) for Lammhults, produced in collaboration with Gunilla Allard. The starting point for the design was a deliberate departure from Lammhults' standard development process: rather than working within the established dimensions used for contract furniture, the team adopted the contours of the human body as their primary reference. The result is a chair scaled and shaped to how people actually sit rather than to production conventions.
The frame is bent steel tubing, fitted with a load-bearing canvas basket that gives the chair its light, thin appearance despite the structural work it is doing. A thick cushion sits on top, sewn in channels that create a striped surface reminiscent of a down duvet. The cushion's softness sits in direct contrast to the rigidity of the steel frame beneath it, and the combination produces a chair that reads as simple without being spare.
The collection's functional innovation is a U-shaped zinc connector that links multiple chairs together in different configurations. A single Sunny operates as a standalone armchair; connected, the pieces form a flexible seating system that can be arranged and rearranged to suit different spatial needs. The connector is small and precise, doing its work without changing the appearance of the individual chair.
