A single-story weekend house in Uckermark by Sigurd Larsen, with a curved stone wall, a glass and polycarbonate roof, and terrace-facing bedroom alcoves

Das Glashaus is a weekend house in Uckermark, north of Berlin, designed by Sigurd Larsen for a small family with frequent guests. The site sits near preserved forest and lakes, and the house is organized to make that landscape part of daily life rather than a backdrop to it.

The plan is simple: a curved wall faces the road and establishes privacy, while every room looks west toward open landscape and connects to a large covered terrace. Beds sit directly along the facade, reachable from inside the house and from the terrace itself. The shower works the same way, accessible from outside as well as in. When the long run of glass doors along the terrace is open, the bedrooms and shower read as alcoves within a single covered outdoor room rather than separate enclosed spaces. A staircase and kitchen block are built as solid concrete brick volumes that frame the main living space and anchor the otherwise open plan.

The curved stone wall recesses to the east, forming a small sheltered court that catches the first morning sun out of the wind. Above, the timber roof structure creates a similarly protected zone on the first floor. To the west, the roof is glass in full, putting the green valley and sunset in direct view from inside. The eastern slope of the roof is polycarbonate, which scatters and colors the light differently as the sun moves across the house through the day.

In warm seasons, the many openings on the garden facade let interior and exterior spaces merge, with the curved wall and the garden's hedges defining where the house ends and the landscape begins. In winter, the same compact, well-insulated single story becomes an intimate place to retreat into, with the panoramic windows keeping the changing light and landscape visible even when the doors stay closed.
