STRATA is Linde Freya Tangelder's presentation during Milan Design Week, part of a series of 3 consecutive shows organized by Middernacht & Alexander alongside Tim Vranken and Tangelder herself. The exhibition brings together 3 collections under the Destroyers/Builders studio: Reworked, Sculpting Archetypes, and Windows of Bo Bardi.
The material language across all 3 collections combines stained wood with brushed aluminum. Tangelder works with oak bases to provide structural grounding while brushed aluminum introduces a lighter, more reflective register that reads differently as the light in a room changes through the day. The deep lacquered wood surfaces in the exhibition create volumes where the lacquer builds depth over the grain beneath, with the carved wood remaining visible under the finish. White bronze and lacquered textile elements appear alongside, adding further material variation within a palette that stays restrained in tone.
The scenography of the STRATA exhibition uses transparent foil to create literal layering in the space, which works as a counterpoint to the physical solidity of the pieces shown. Tangelder describes her practice as striving for sensory relevance and cultural value at both the level of detail and the larger scale. The exhibition title reflects this: strata as geological layering, applied to how materials, finishes, and spatial conditions accumulate meaning in a designed object.
