Borgo Gallana is a collection of 3 self-contained houses in the countryside near Oria, Puglia, produced by Studio Andrew Trotter from 2 existing structures on the same land. The studio designed a courtyard between the 2 original buildings and added staircases on each side, then extended both properties to create the 3 independent dwellings. The result reads as a small compound rather than a single villa, with shared exterior space organized around the courtyard at its center.
Construction throughout uses local sandstone tufo, the material that characterizes vernacular building across this part of Puglia. Vaulted ceilings and cement floors run through the whole property, giving all 3 houses a coherent structural and material language. Bathroom sinks and kitchen countertops were designed by the studio and made locally, a consistent practice in Studio Andrew Trotter's Puglian work where bespoke fixtures are produced by regional craftspeople rather than sourced from suppliers.
The interiors are furnished with vintage tables, chairs, ceramics, and lamps, alongside pieces from Frama, Lumina, Bongio, Tine K, and Gervasoni, and local tableware by Nicola Fasano. The studio's own outdoor metal wall lamp in black powder-coated finish appears throughout the exterior areas. The furniture and object selection follows the same sourcing logic as the architecture: local production where possible, with considered additions from studios whose work fits the material register of the houses.
